Youth Explosion 2011 On Saturday, July 23, 2011 HEARTS, a community organization of Georgetown, kicked off its Youth Explosion from 4:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in Beck Park, next to the Beck Administrative building on the corners of Church and Washington Streets. The primary purpose of this event was to support, educate, and inform the youth and to instill within them great moral and educational values while providing a fun-filled day of fellowship, enjoyable activities, and free food in a carnival-like atmosphere. Speakers included Rose Rock, mother of renowned comedian, actor, and writer Chris Rock. A number of other distinguished churches, businesses, officials, and communities were represented there. Other distinguished speakers on the rostrum included: Bishop John Smith, Bishop Floyd Knowlin, Bishop Richard Frasier, Rev. Weston Burgess, Rev. Patrick Staggers, Rev. Dr. M. Charmaine RaginWhittleton, Rev. Thomas Drayton, Rev. Robert Davis, and Rev. Dr. Lorenzo Smalls, Sr. Another highlight of the evening came from a martial arts demonstration by the students from the Sessou School of Martial Arts in Andrews, SC under the direction of founder and CEO Sensei Don Parsons. Results of Event The community, representing all age groups, responded to this event by coming out in large numbers, (with a count of over 500) to support the youth. Several biker groups were represented among the crowd. After such a successful evening in the park HEARTS decided to make this an annual event.
Refuel Youth Summit 2011 On Monday, August 8 and Tuesday, August 9, 2011 HEARTS held the 2-day Refuel Youth Summit in the Georgetown High School auditorium beginning at 7:00 p.m. The doors opened at 6:30 p.m. Youth ministers for the revival included Minister Wisdom Marsh and Minister Chris Dingle. The revival doubled as a community-wide Back to School rally for the Georgetown County School District. Donated supplies were distributed among the students of the Georgetown County School District.
Results of Event Over 600 people attended this event. Many students renewed their commitment to excel in their academic studies by following all the school rules and applying themselves to the rigors and demands of an academic environment. At the beginning of the school year each school received a portion as indicated by need, of the donated school supplies.
Coats for Kids 2011 On Black Friday, November 25, 2011- December 19, 2011 HEARTS Ministry, in partnership with Wal-Mart Super Store, conducted a successful Coats for Kidsdrive to provide new coats for Christmas for the children in need in Georgetown and the surrounding areas. HEARTS Ministry contacted all of the principals in the elementary and middle schools in the Georgetown School District and informed them of the drive. The responding principals, in turn, provided a list of sizes for the children in their schools that needed coats.
Results of Event Over 300 new coats were distributed among the elementary and middle school students. The principals and students were excited about receiving the coats. Many of the principals expressed their and the students’ deep appreciation for the coats by writing a letter of thanks expressing their sincere gratitude as recipients of such meaningful and heartfelt gifts.
Project Valentine 2012 On February 13, 2012 HEARTS filled and donated gift baskets to women in several “Shelter for Battered Women" facilities in Myrtle Beach and Charleston. Gift items were donated by members of the community and well-wishers from several different states. It was HEARTS’ desire to convey to the women of the shelters that they were special and to help shine a small ray of sunlight into the dark areas of their lives in hopes of instilling love, joy, and a sense of peace for the future.
Results of Event The gift baskets were delivered to the facilities on Valentine’s Day. Directors of the facilities forwarded handwritten “thank you” notes from the residents in the facilities. The directors also expressed their thanks for the kind and generous gestures of HEARTS to women who may otherwise have felt overlooked and forgotten on such an important and special day.
Youth Explosion 2012 On Saturday, July 21, 2021 HEARTS hosted its second annual Youth Explosion from 4:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in Beck Park. A variety of entertainment was provided including: a motivational speaker, a deejay, gospel rap, praise dance, firemen with their fire truck, social service vendors, jump castles, basketball, and free food.
Results of Event Around 550 people attended this exciting event. A number of youth came forward and volunteered to serve the senior citizens. It was a community event well worth the time and effort.
Renew: Youth Summit 2012 On Monday, August 13 and Tuesday, August 14, 2012 HEARTS held its second annual Youth Summit, (renamed Renew Youth Summit in the Georgetown High School auditorium beginning at 7:00 p.m. The doors opened at 6:30 p.m. The keynote speaker, Eric Anderson, a nationally renowned motivational speaker and magician hails from Atlanta, Georgia. Anderson has appeared at the White House with President Obama and on CNN. Again, the summit doubled as a community-wide Back-to-School rally for the Georgetown County School District. HEARTS asked members of the community to donate book bags and other school supplies for the students of Georgetown County School District.
Results of Event Eric Anderson’s life story of a childhood spent in various foster homes, physical and emotional abuse, and his eventual triumph over his circumstances had a great impact on the audience, young and old alike. Over 500 students, parents, and members of the community attended the summit and responded to the call for school supplies with generous donations which were distributed among the schools throughout the county. Principals and students expressed deep gratitude for the school supplies and sent ‘thank you’ notes to HEARTS.
